Declaration of Faith
Bunbury City Church Bunbury Inc. Declaration of Faith.
These declarations of faith of the Bunbury City Church, grounded in these scriptures, are given as a basis for belief, Fellowship and Ministry
"that we all preach the same thing". (1 Corinthians 1:10)
1. THE HOLY SCRIPTURES
We believe that the Bible is inspired and infallible word of God and our highest authority for faith and practice.
(Matthew 4:4, Hebrews 4:12, John14:23)
2. THE ETERNAL GODHEAD
We believe in God, who is eternal and self- existent, revealed as one being in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and the Creator, of all things, and that all people are created in the image of God, to love and worship Him.
(John 1:1-4, 1 John 5:7).
3. THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the Holy Spirit, fully divine, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. He convicts, regenerates and sanctifies, and guides believers into the truth. (John 14:16-17, John 16:7-15, 2 Thessalonians 2:13, 1 Peter 1:2).
4. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
We believe in His humanity, deity, virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death for the sins of the world, resurrection for our justification, ascension to the Father‘s right hand, and personal return to reign on earth. ( Isaiah 9:6-7, Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 53, Galatians 4:4, Hebrews 9:28, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).
5. THE DEVIL
We believe in the existence and person of the devil, who actively opposes the purposes of God.
(Revelation 12:9, Matthew 16:23).
6. THE FALL OF HUMANITY
We believe that all people have rejected God through their sinful acts and are separated from God.
(Romans 3:10,23, Isaiah 59:2, Romans 6:23).
7. SALVATION
We believe that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone who-by His suffering, shed blood, death on the cross, and resurrection-has made full atonement for the sins of all people. We receive salvation by grace through repentance and confession of faith in Jesus Christ, thereby being born again into the Kingdom of God, producing an upright and moral life. (John 14:6, Acts 4:10-12, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 3:23, 6:23 John, 1:12, Romans 10:8-10).
8. THE CHURCH
We believe that the church, the body of Christ, is the community of people who confess faith in Jesus Christ. While universal, the church is local in expression and witness. It exist for Worship, fellowship, evangelism, discipleship, and mission. Gifts of Ministry are given by Christ to strengthen and mature the church. (Matthew 16:13-18, 1 Peter 1:22-23, 1 Corinthians 12:12, Ephesians 4:11-16, Mark 16:12-20).
9. THE ORDINANCES:
WATER BAPTISM
We believe in water baptism by single immersion in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is a public declaration of a person's faith in, and identification with, the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
(Matthew 3:14-16, Mark 16:16, John 3:5).
THE LORD'S SUPPER
We believe in the Lord's Supper, which is celebrated regularly as one body (made up of born again believers in Christ), in communion with Jesus Christ and in symbolic remembrance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ until He returns.
(John 6:48-58, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).
10. SANCTIFICATION
We believe in the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit, who convicted people of their sin and inspires repentance and faith. The Holy Spirit transforms believers into the likeness of Jesus Christ. (Romans 15:16, 1 Corinthians 6:11, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, 1Peter 1:2).
11. THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is a transformative experience, distinct from and subsequent to Salvation. It is available through Jesus Christ to all believers and accompained by the initial evidence of speaking in tongues. It results in empowerment for effective witness to the world. (Matthew 3:11, Acts 2:1-4, 38-39).
12. GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit imparts spiritual gifts to believers for ministry to one another, the church and the world.
(1 Corinthians 12).
13. DIVINE HEALING
We believe that God heals today through the atoning and finished work of Jesus Christ, and the Word of God by praying in faith for healing and miracles we witness to and continue the ministry of Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 53:4-5, Mark 16:15-17, James 5:14-16, Luke 10:1-9).
14. THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST
We believe in, and are looking forward to the imminent and personal return of Jesus Christ to gather His people to Himself, and to judge the living and the dead. His Kingdom will have no end. (Matthew 25:31, 26:64, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Corinthians 1:7, Philippians 3:20, 1 Thessalonians 1:10, 1Thessalonians 4:16-18, 5:23, James 5:7, Revelation 1:7, Isaiah 9:6-7).
15 THE PUNISHMENT OF THE WICKED
We believe in the resurrection of the body. All who believe in Jesus Christ will have everlasting life in the Presence of God; those who reject Him will have eternal separation from God. It is the Call of all believers to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ until He returns. (Matthew 16:27, Mark 8:38, 2 John 5:22, Acts 17:31, Romans 14:10, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, 2 Timothy 4:8,
Hebrews 12:23).
16. MARRIAGE
We believe that marriage according to Scripture is between a man and a woman; that man and women are joined to become one flesh. God created Man in His own image and likeness, male and female, instructing them to be fruitful, and multiply. (Genesis 1:27-28, 2:24, Hebrews 13:4).
